How to Hack Wi-Fi in Kali Linux
If you’re new to hacking, or perhaps just want to learn more about it, starting with the basics of Wi-Fi security and penetration testing can be an excellent way to get your feet wet in the field. In this guide, we’ll go over how to hack WiFi in Kali Linux, one of the most popular hacking toolsets used by IT and cybersecurity professionals alike. The steps covered here can also be applied on other operating systems, but the process will vary slightly depending on your distro of choice.
Step 1: Install Metasploit
You’ll want to begin by installing Metasploit on your Kali laptop. Start by firing up a terminal, then enter: apt install metasploit and hit Enter. After that, simply follow all of the prompts—Metasploit will be downloaded and installed as part of a standard Debian package management process. (Note: If you receive any errors during installation, try refreshing your repositories with: apt update && apt upgrade -y.)
Step 2: Configure The Wireless Card
Wireless cards are not preconfigured for optimal hacking, so you’ll need to open Kali’s configuration window and make a few changes. From your desktop, click Places > Administration > Networking, then double-click on Drivers > Broadcom Wireless. Change your method of connectivity from Mixed Mode to Monitor Mode using tools like PrismStumbler, KisMAC or Kismet that could identify wireless networks and their respective channel frequencies. In Monitor Mode, data packets will be visible even if encryption is used.
Step 3: Run A Basic Scan To See Which Networks Are Available
Basic scans are pretty self-explanatory; they just look for any wireless networks that are within range. The only thing you need to do before starting a basic scan is select your wireless card from Tools > Wireless Card. After that, go ahead and run a basic scan by clicking on Scan from the main menu. If there are any networks nearby, they should be highlighted for you.
Step 4: Run A Deauthentication Attack Against Access Points
Deauthentication attacks are common attacks used against WPA networks. They force access points and clients running on them to disconnect from their WiFi network, allowing you to hijack it and pretend you’re a legitimate user. To do so, run aireplay-ng -0 2 -a $BSSID -c $CLIENT1_MAC $STATION1_MAC –deauth 60 on the KALI box. The command should be input as follows: aireplay-ng -0 2 -a AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF -c CC:DD:EE:FF FF:GG –deauth 60′′
Step 5: Get In And Have Fun!
Now that you have completed all of these steps, you have enough information about how to hack wifi with kali Linux. It’s time for you to get started on your path toward becoming a professional hacker! Be sure to enjoy yourself along the way and try not to overwhelm yourself with too much information at once. Good luck!
